Running the gauntlet of the Arctic Terns is my favourite part of visiting the Farnes. I find them quite mesmerising as they fly around my head, constantly screaming, often making contact and occasionally drawing blood!
I spent more than an hour standing in the firing line - whirling like a dervish, camera on high-speed repeat, trying to get a decent image.

I opened the aperture and turned the ISO way up in order to get a decent shutter speed to capture the bee in the air. Consequently, the depth of field in this image is nowhere near a large as I would like it.
Despite the narrow DoF, I'm happy that I managed to catch the bee in the perfect place.

Two evenings ago, I was standing in the middle of some heathland watching and listening for Nightjars.
I saw a male flying low to the ground in a small (5m-ish) circle. He circled 3 times, then landed amongst the Heather.

Yesterday evening, I returned a little earlier, before sunset, and carefully approached his landing spot. There he was!
Obviously, his favoured roost site.

So - this morning, with better light but before the sun got too high and cast horrible shadows, I returned and got this image.
